Tiffany Krihwan, Captain
In her second year as Captain aboard Unicorn, Tiffany Krihwan comes from a distinguished career aboard sailing vessels of all sizes and missions. In more than 20 years on boats, her passion for sailing has found her in command of every category of sailing vessel from racing dinghies to chartered yachts to tall ships.
Beginning at age 10 as a racer of Thistles and Flying Juniors, Tiffany's racing career reached as high as the semi-finals of the junior circuit for the Rolex Cup. Next came work teaching aboard research and educational vessels, but from her first step as chief mate aboard Appledore IV in 1997, her love for tall ships was born.
Tiffany has worked in almost every capacity aboard tall ships from deckhand to master, thus honing her skills while continuing her educational development. She has served as Chief Mate aboard the legendary Pride of Baltimore II. She has also served as Captain of the 138-foot 3-masted Schooner Denis Sullivan as well as Schooner Roseway. Before joining Unicorn and the Sisters Under Sail Program in 2007, she was Chief Mate and Relief Captain of the Brigantine Exy Johnson in Los Angeles CA. The Sisters Under Sail program continues to sharpen Tiffany's leadership skills in the Tall Ship industry by opening doors and presenting new challenges.
Among many other awards, she is a recipient of the Rod Stephens Trophy for Outstanding Seamanship, the 2001 Governor's Award for Environmental Education Excellence. As part of a team of three she won the Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medal from US SAILING for the rescue at sea of a lost seaman.
Although she has a passion for and an educational background in Environmental Science from Edinboro University, she holds numerous mariners' licenses and certificates from the United States Coast Guard; for a career she would not do anything else in this world. When she is not aboard the ship she finds herself spending time with her family in Western New York and Pennsylvania.
The Crew
 |
Rachel Bahm - First Mate
Rachel joins us from SSV Geronimo where she has spent her last three seasons sailing the east coast, Bahamas, and Puerto Rico. She has worked a variety of vessels in her six years on the water- from 8 ft. to 180 ft., motor and sail, monohulls and cats, and a range of positions from ordinary seaman to captain. Rachel feels she has found her passion and home on tall ships. She is a good natured lass who is eager to learn and equally as wholehearted when it comes to teaching.

Kristen Walker - Ships Steward and Cook
Kristen joins us from the Bay Sail organization, operators of the Appledore vessels in Bay City, MI, where she served as deckhand and cook during the summer months while completing high school. With a primary passion for cooking and baking, she will be attending Johnson & Wales University, Providence, RI as a first-year student in the Culinary Arts program in the fall.

Courtney Iversen - Deckhand
Courtney began her sailing career aboard the Unicorn as a trainee in 2004. In her third season as deckhand and Sisters Under Sail sail trainer, she will be a senior at Moravian Academy, Bethlehem, PA in the fall. She is beginning her College search process and hopes to pursue a major in either primary or secondary education. Courtney feels at home in the rigging as well as in the engine room and her sense of humor keeps us all laughing!

Tami Kellogg - Deckhand
Growing up an hour from the Chesapeake Bay, Tami realized early on that she was meant to be on the water. On the way to a sailing career, she went to medical school and trained as an emergency physician. She has worked at hospitals in the Bronx, NY, and Lawrence, MA, serving primarily Latin American immigrant communities. She learned to sail dinghies at Community Boating on the Charles River in Boston, and has cruised the waters of New England extensively. Her first schooner love hit her in 2001; she has been a regular on the Lettie G. Howard and other historic boats since. Tami is committed to sharing her passion for the outdoors and the empowerment available through pushing one’s limits in a supportive environment. She loves to travel, cycle, dance and play music. |

Erin Johnson - Deckhand
Erin joins the Unicorn from the Schooner Zodiac which sails in the
Washington San Juan Islands. She loves teaching and working hard to pull off
each day of beautiful sailing! She is entering her second year at Mount
Holyoke College with a double major in Dance and International Relations. |
 |
Sarah Bullock - Deckhand
As a native to Camden, Maine, Sarah spent last summer as deckhand aboard Schooner Victory Chimes; one of Maine’s Windjammer vessels. She currently joins us from the California-based vessel Hawaiian Chieftain where she further developed skills in square rig sailing and teaching students. She herself was a trainee aboard several sail training vessels while in high school and can relate to the students perspective from her own first-hand experience. |

Samantha Santamaria
As the 4th daughter of the Santamaria's, Samantha spends her summer vacation sailing along-side her mom, sisters, crew and trainees. She is always eager to learn, pitch-in and do what's needed. In fact, she's the best t-shirt seller a tall ship owner could ask for. You've been warned! |
