Just for Parents

Rachel Bahm, Captain

In her second year aboard Unicorn executing Sisters Under Sail programming, Rachel's leadership style gains the respect and admiration of her fellow crew members and trainees. She is a strong voice while at command, effective communicator, leads by example and a good natured lass who is eager to learn and equally as wholehearted when it comes to teaching. She has worked a variety of vessels in her seven years on the water- from 8 ft. to 180 ft., motor and sail, monohulls and cats, and a range of positions from ordinary seaman to captain. Rachel feels she has found her passion and home on tall ships.

On-board Leadership facilitator

Cassie Castillo
1st Mate

This will be my first season aboard Unicorn. I am excited and looking forward to the upcoming summer program! I grew up in Northern California, swimming, surfing and hiking but it wasn’t until I moved out to the east coast that I found my new love and passion, sailing and sail training. I have been sailing on traditional tall ships for the past 6 years. I’ve held deckhand-mate positions and participated in day sails, snorkel trips and week long educational/sail training programs. I have also spent time working in a sail loft, and racing small boats in Maine, helping me to become a more rounded sailor. I enjoy the freedom and adventure of being on the water. There is no place id rather be than at the helm or in the rigging of a tall ship. I cant wait to join Unicorn and become a part of the Sisters Under Sail program!

Tami Kellogg
2nd Mate

Growing up an hour from the Chesapeake Bay, Tami realized early on that she was meant to be on the water. On the way to a sailing career, she went to medical school and trained as an emergency physician. She has worked at hospitals in the Bronx, NY, and Lawrence, MA, serving primarily Latin American immigrant communities. She learned to sail dinghies at Community Boating on the Charles River in Boston, and has cruised the waters of New England extensively. Her first schooner love hit her in 2001; she has been a regular on the Lettie G. Howard and other historic boats since. Tami is committed to sharing her passion for the outdoors and the empowerment available through pushing one's limits in a supportive environment. She loves to travel, cycle, dance and play music.

Erin Johnson,
Senior Deckhand & Bosun Apprentice

This summer will be Erin's second season aboard Unicorn. She is originally from the Pacific Northwest, but she loves getting out to New England waters during the summer. Erin is entering her junior year at the University of Washington, working toward a Communication major and a Dance minor. Bosunry is her favorite aspect of tall ship sailing, so she'll be up working in the rig at any chance she can get!

Courtney Iversen
Senior Deckhand & Internship Coordinator

Courtney began her sailing career aboard the Unicorn as a trainee in 2004. Since that time, she has moved up the ranks to her position as Senior Deckhand. Since Courtney has experience as both a trainee under the Sisters Under Sail banner as well as a professional crew member, she enthusiastically took on the added responsibility of helping to manage our returning interns and their retained tall ship sailing knowledge. She graduates from Moravian Academy, Bethlehem, PA in June 2009 and seeks to pursue a major in secondary education when she goes off to college in the fall. Courtney feels at home in the rigging as well as in the engine room and her sense of humor keeps us all laughing!

Zian Moon
Cook

My mom tells me my first experience sailing was a class trip on the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater in the 4th grade. I don't really remember it, but it planted a seed. Later she would take me on member sails and I eventually became a volunteer and a sailor's apprentice. I also sailed the Puget Sound as a volunteer aboard the Schooner Adventuress when I lived in the Pacific Northwest. I currently reside in the Sonoran Desert city of Tucson. Besides cooking and sailing, I enjoy cycling, hanging out with really big trees, playing and listening to music, and seeing the world. I am also quite fond of root vegetables, arugala, cumquats, and water.

Sami Santamaria
Deckhand apprentice

As the youngest daughter of Dawn and Jay Santamaria, Sami Santamaria has been sailing Unicorn her entire life! She knows her way around the boat very well and is a welcomed breath of fresh air for crew and trainees. Much to her father’s joy, she loves the engine room and the galley. She is the best t-shirt seller in the tall ship fleet. You have been warned!
