Women's Leadership Sail Program

“Yes, we put Women at the Helm too!”

re you a busy executive woman? Dedicated community leader? Exhausted full-time mom? Need to take some time to focus on yourself for a change?

No matter where you pour your energies, expanding your leadership skills in today's demanding and ever changing world is a challenge. It takes the skill to know how to leverage your strengths. The courage to acknowledge your weak-spots. And, precious time to find a safe and supportive learning environment where you can freely process them. Practice them. And, make them stick.

Look no further…

Following the spirit of Sisters Under Sail and expertise of our mentors at BeamPines, Inc., our Women's Leadership Sail program is a shared-learning experience just for women. As women ourselves, we understand your hunger for personal growth. Tallship Unicorn's all-female professional crew establish a fun and stimulating learning environment. Work side-by-side with other like-minded women to experience immediate action. Set sail, climb the rigging and take the helm of a traditionally rigged 118-foot tall ship.

A liberating and powerful experience!

“The tall ship experience helped to remind me that adventures are what make life. Ships are meant to be sailed, not left in the harbor. Life is meant to be lived.”

We offer two programs:

Day Sail Program: Your ship leaves the dock for a 4-hour adventure that begins with a personal learning styles inventory to bring focus to the day and ends with a group facilitated discussion to connect the dots between your shipboard experience and your life as a leader.

Overnight Program: Similar to our day sail program, your journey begins with a personal learning styles inventory to bring focus to the days ahead and to begin the bonding process with your new shipmates. Overnight passages promise excitement. More sailing. More opportunities to expand your tall ship sailing skills. More time aboard ship translates to a deeper understanding of key learnings.

You will...

  • discover your preferred learning style
  • gain insight into your strengths
  • tap into some of your weak-spots
  • leverage your talents more effectively
  • tackle issues such as risk-orientation, teamwork and leadership
  • strengthen skills in strategic thinking and problem solving
  • sail with a “crew” of like-minded women

“The leadership sail was wonderful and it really made me look at my life from a different perspective.  Not just in terms of my profession, but in terms of who I am and where my life is headed. It gave me a chance to explore myself as a leader and how I learn. The experience encompasses communication, hard work and most of all, heart.”

Why women on a tall ship?

“Women and tall ships are not typically thought to be natural partners, but our Women's Leadership Sail program is beginning to change that assumption.” explains Dawn Santamaria, Founder & Executive Director of Sisters Under Sail and Co-owner of Tallship Unicorn. “The ship experience is the determining factor in this shared-learning program. It brings an element of unfamiliarity and unpredictability; creating an immediate ‘comfort zone’ issue for most women. Not only do we address these uncomfortable emotions head-on within the program, but they are overcome. In the end the women go from A to Z - recognizing that to experience growth, we must overcome risk.”

Putting over 100 women at the helm since 2005.
A liberating and powerful experience!

“Since the ship experience, I have been more cognizant of the limits I am willing to push myself through as well as more understanding of the boundaries others set for themselves. I can better understand that not everyone is the same and something that is easy for one may be extremely difficult for another.”
